Why BatBin is Needed

From our homes to Nasa every premises on the planet generates waste batteries.

If you sell or supply more than 32 kg of batteries a year you must provide a take back service.

So if a premises fits the above criteria it will have a battery bin containing waste batteries either on display or tucked away where nobody can see it

............Why would anybody want to display a waste bin?

 Batteries cause fires

Even if batteries are fully discharged they can become a risk of fire from short circuit.

A short circuited or damaged battery can generate high temperatures which can lead to a battery fire.

Lithium batteries are extremely hazardous due to the chemical compound if ruptured/short circuited they can lead to an explosion or fire.

The risk of hazards occurring is greatly increased when batteries are disturbed and heat can build up over a period of time.
 How batteries should be stored

Battery terminals should be protected or insulated.

Batteries must always be protected against moisture and any other sources of water.

Batteries should have their supply of oxygen removed to reduce the chance of fire.

Batteries should be stored in plastic containers and not metal containers

In the battery recycling sector there is currently no battery recycling bin that offers full
compliance with UK and
European standards and
 practices.
